The 3-5 Drumright Tornado boys basketball team put together nearly four quarters of playoff-level basketball last week as they plucked the Mounds Golden Eagles, 71-47.

The Tornadoes opened the game strong, holding Mounds to just five points in the first period while chucking in 18 points of their own.

“I thought we played a great game, minus a four minute period in the second quarter,” said Tornado Head Coach Jason Bray.

The Tornado defense stumbled in the second frame, giving up 21 points, while the offense committed a few turnovers and only scored 13 points, to end the first half with a 31-26 lead over Mounds.

The Tornadoes came out in the second half tightened up and ready to play basketball.

Offensive ball movement kept the Golden Eagles on their heels during second half and the Tornadoes put up 40 points, holding the Mounds offense to 21.

“Dakota Weir played his best game of the season,” said Bray. “And Joseph Bray almost had a triple double.”

With 18 points a piece, Weir and Bray combined to score more than half the Tornadoes points against Mounds.

Weir hit five field goals for ten points, but went eight for 13 from the charity stripe.

Bray’s scoring came from a pair of treys, a pair of deuces, and shooting eight for ten from the line. Will Bruce also shot doubledigits with ten points from a three, three twos and a free throw.

BHall had five, Devin Martin scored three and Aiden Watts, Gage Lovin and Bryson Kelley each scored two.

“Travian Hall did a great job on the glass,” said Bray. “Gabe Butler had a solid game as well. The team showed what they are capable of doing now we need to show that for an entire game.”
