T’was the night before Christmas,

And all through the town,

Not a creature was stirring,

They were all locked down.

Face coverings were hung,

From the rear-view with care.

They are usually required,

So we’re mostly prepared.

The children were nestled,

All snug in their beds.

With visions of Chromebooks,

Stuck in their heads.

It’s now Christmas break,

And parents are yearning.

That kids go to school,

NOT distance learning.

I settled into the recliner,

Mamma turned the TV on,

And we binge watched all,

Of the Mandalorian.

When out on the lawn,

There arose such a clatter,

We sprang from our chairs,

To see what was the matter.

I started across the room,

And fl ew toward the door,

I tripped over my boots,

And stumbled and swore.

The motion light through,

The screen door glass,

Gave the lustre of beige,

To the dormant grass.

The neighbor was there,

In his tinfoil hat.

Blaming COVID-19,

On un-neutered cats.

Masks, he said, threaten

His very existence,

He doesn’t even bother,

To social distance.

There’s too many selfi sh,

Folks out every night,

Not wearing masks,

An infringement of rights?

To make a political statement,

And be a moronic dissenter,

They’ll put somebody’s loved one,

In the medical center.

2020 is ending,

With all of its troubles,

But that’s not going to stop,

All of our struggles.

A vaccine is arriving,

And bringing hope,

The media is putting it,

Under the microscope.

We’ve got two weeks left,

Of this crazy year.

Pray for resolution,

Someone will hear.

If you get sick, for God’s sake,

Please quarantine.

And when it’s your turn,

Get the vaccine.

We’re in this together,

And we’ll beat this thing.

We’ll get back to normal,

Hopefully by spring.

From our family, we want you,

To feel love’s light,

A healthy Christmas to all,

And to all a good night.
